This four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath modern cottage-style home in Homewood, Alabama is the perfect blend of old and new. Designed and built by Twin Construction, this is one of our most popular home designs, featured on Pinterest, designer websites, and Birmingham Home & Garden.
Combining traditional elements of English architecture, the exterior features painted cream brick with a cedar-shake steep-pitched roof. The homeowner also wanted to utilize large windows to allow light to pour into the interior space. Specifically, we used aluminum clad windows in a bronze color and a custom steel door to connect the outdoor and indoor space. Lastly, the home features a welcoming front porch to greet local neighbors.
Interior: Timeless and Elegant
With a soft palette, the interior is timeless and inviting. Upon entry, warm hardwood floors welcome you into the space. The interior is decorated in cream neutral paint colors with soft tonal shades throughout the two-story floorplan. A highlight of the home’s design, Calacatta gold marble is used throughout the home, from the kitchen to the bathrooms.
Modern Amenities Meet Classic Beauty
The kitchen in this modern cottage is a classic beauty. Flooded with natural light, soft bright neutrals meet classic warm brass hardware and lighting. The large island features a marble countertop perfect for entertaining and hosting.
Serene Owner’s Suite
On the same floor, the primary bedroom features vaulted ceilings with exposed antique beams. Designed with longevity in mind, the primary bathroom is nearly floor-to-ceiling in marble tile and countertops. Paired with unlacquered brass faucets and cabinetry hardware, this primary bath’s design will stand the test of time.
Patterned Accents
Nearby, the powder room and laundry room also feature unique spaces. Fitted with blue wallpaper, the powder room is a distinctive design space of its own. Our Twin interior designers love to utilize wallpaper in bold colors and patterns, especially in these adjacent spaces. The laundry room boasts a patterned tile with soft gray cabinets for a beautifully functional space.
Crisp Cottage-Style Exterior spaces
Nested off the side of the exterior, this home hosts a screened-in porch. With a mild climate in Alabama, the homeowner gets a lot of usage of this space for relaxing.

Lastly, Twin Construction designed and built a small European outdoor retreat next to the garage featuring crunchy gravel and custom-built raised garden beds. In this cozy but elegant space, the homeowner can enjoy flower gardening and boosts of color against the neutral backdrop of the home.
