At Twin Construction, designing a coastal home isn’t just about how the house looks—it’s about how it functions when it’s full. The best beach houses are the ones that feel easy to live in.

This Santa Rosa Florida home, owned by Twin Construction owners David and William Siegel, was designed by our in-house plan designer to handle multiple families at once, with a layout that balances shared spaces and private areas. Every decision, from the bedrooms to the outdoor spaces, was made with real use in mind.

Giving Everyone Their Own Space
When you’re designing for more than one family, one of the biggest priorities is making sure everyone has a place to land. That starts with the bedrooms.

Instead of treating every suite the same, the goal is to give each one a slightly different feel. The owners’ suites reflect the style of each couple to make them feel like a home away from home. It doesn’t have to be dramatic, but small differences in layout, finishes, or lighting can help each space feel more personal.

At the same time, these rooms need to be practical. Good storage, comfortable layouts, and easy-to-use bathrooms all go a long way when people are living out of a suitcase for a week or more.
Letting Kids Take Over
Kids are a big part of any beach house! In this home, a separate area was created where David and William’s teenagers and adult children can hang out and spend time together. Having outgrown the need for bunk beds, we designed one bedroom for all the girls and one for all the boys. Each room features four twin beds paired with bedside tables for function.

A Special Place for Guests
The home also includes a dedicated guest suite, giving visitors a comfortable and private space to unwind during their stay. Thoughtfully separated from the main living areas, the suite allows guests to feel at home while still maintaining a sense of privacy for everyone under one roof.

Designing for Real Life
At the end of the day, a good beach house isn’t about over-designing or adding unnecessary features. It’s about making sure the space works the way people actually use it.
That means creating areas where people can gather, but also making sure there’s room to spread out. Together with our Twin team, Laurie chose materials that will endure and thought through the small details that make a big difference once the house is in use.
At Twin Construction, that’s always the focus—building homes that look great, but more importantly, function well for the people who use them. Especially at the beach, where the goal is simple: make it easy to relax and enjoy time together. Stay tuned for Part 2!
