Nestled in picturesque Mountain Brook, Alabama, this kitchen underwent a significant renovation, evolving from a dated cottage style into a modern beauty. This remodeling journey involved demolishing the old kitchen, including a dated bay window, and embracing a design that seamlessly blends warmth, sophistication, and functionality.

Tired & Dated
The first step in this transformative process was bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. The dated cottage-style kitchen, adorned with dark wood cabinets, was completely demoed, making way for a fresh canvas that would redefine the heart of the home. Alongside the removal of the old kitchen, the breakfast area, and the bay window, a decision was made to install new windows along the back wall. This strategic move not only flooded the space with natural light but also provided a captivating view of the surrounding beauty of the backyard.
Working in collaboration with Twin’s plan designer, Crystal Tucker, and interior designer, Lydia Hurt, the result is a kitchen that marries traditional charm with contemporary elegance, featuring warm white painted cabinets, black and white marble countertops, and a stunning island with a warm wood stain and soapstone countertops. The modern transitional elements reflect the homeowner’s clean and sophisticated taste.
Working with Twin Cabinets
Collaborating with cabinet designer Sara Giedinghagen of Twin Cabinets, redesigning the cabinet layout proved to be a pivotal decision in the success of this kitchen renovation. The warm white painted cabinets were chosen for the perimeter of the kitchen, topped with a dramatic black and white marble for movement and interest.
To introduce a sense of contrast and depth, an antique brown stain was chosen for the kitchen island. This warm, earthy tone not only complements the white cabinetry but also brings a touch of modern elegance to the space. The island features a finished soapstone countertop, adding both durability and contrasting interest. This combination of materials and colors creates a visually dynamic and harmonious kitchen design.
Thick Marble Slab Backsplash and Range Alcove
The range area became a focal point in the kitchen, featuring a thick marble slab backsplash that adds both texture and visual interest. The marble’s natural veining complements the warm white cabinets, creating a cohesive and captivating look. The range alcove adds a touch of traditional charm while maintaining a modern and functional layout.
Embracing Natural Light
The decision to add new windows along the back of the kitchen was instrumental in transforming the space. Natural light now floods the kitchen, accentuating the warmth of the white cabinets, showcasing the veining in the marble countertops, and creating an inviting atmosphere to cook and entertain.
This kitchen renovation in Mountain Brook, Alabama reflects thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship. By demolishing the old and embracing a fresh design, the space has evolved from a dated mid-century kitchen into a modern culinary haven.
