In this part 2 feature, Twin transformed this Birmingham white cottage into a stylish and functional space for a wonderful family! Inside, you’ll see some of the bathroom, laundry, and dining room spaces. Missed part 1? You can find it here.
Functional and Stylish Living Spaces
This open and airy living room is a great space for this family to gather. We added a powder room and bar to make this space more functional for both guests and added convenience for the family.
This built-in bar resides next to a small seating area that opens to both the large vaulted ceiling living room and kitchen. Painted in mossy green and accented with brass lighting, this space is perfect for making a great cocktail or serving sweet treats.
Adjacent to the bar, this moody powder room is walled with vertical nickel gap painted a soft black. Adding character to the space, we used a light oak vanity and a light natural stone countertop for interest to balance out light and dark design inspiration.
Green with Envy: A Curated Dining Space
Our homeowner has a large family but never had a functional space for family meals. This space is the entrance from the front door but previously served as a living room. Our designer, Lydia Smith, and plan designer, Crystal Tucker, artfully converted this cramped living space into a dining room suited for a large family! Lined in a mossy green wall paneling, we found the perfect botanical wallpaper to finish the space.
The arched door that opens to a front porch patio area was the perfect addition for architectural elements.
A Primary Bathroom Retreat
Every primary suite deserves a quiet retreat. This light-filled bedroom opens to a timeless bathroom suite.
Our custom cabinet company, Twin Cabinets along with designer Sara Giedinghagen, worked with the homeowner to design these reeded white oak cabinets with unlacquered brass hardware. The dark soapstone countertops deliver a nice contrast to the creamy white walls.
Lined with honed marble floors laid in a herringbone pattern, we placed the tub in a cozy arched alcove. Adjacent to the tub, is a classic marble shower with a hex tile on the shower floor.
Complete with his and hers vanities, there is plenty of storage and space for a private ensuite.
Loads of Details: A Sophisticated Laundry Room
Nestled in the newly finished basement, this laundry room is filled with storage and beauty! Previously a dark space, we designed a mud room space for all the family’s gear, coats, and shoes. A place for everything, this is a beautiful space to fold laundry on the large center island or tackle messes with the custom sink.
Other Spaces: Classic Details
This beautiful home has been updated while still maintaining its cottage charm. This light-filled hallway leads to the home’s bedrooms.
Lastly, this office is tucked into an efficient space next to the dining room for an easy space to study and read.
We enjoyed transforming this space—making it more functional for the family’s needs while adding timeless and charming interior features!
